Mama gets a day off & loves it

Being a mom is a full-time job, the only trick is that you don’t get to go home and relax after a hard day, you don’t get lunch breaks and you can forget about taking a vacation. Even sick days are often not an option. As a mom, you are supposed to care about everything, charts and grades, bedtime stories, healthy meals, homework, dental appointments, housekeeping, PTA meetings, and so much more. Yes, being a mother is rewarding and amazing and the best job in the world I wouldn’t trade for anything, but let’s face it, it is also completely exhausting. That is why it is important that you take a break every now and then and just relax. Heck, your day off isn’t a reward, it is your well-deserved right!

The funny thing is, even when we get to spend a day all by ourselves and actually do what we want, we have no idea where to begin. If your partner has decided to take the kids camping or your little ones are having a sleepover at their grandparent’s place, it is time to let your hair down and paint the town red! Or, you know, take a nap, whatever suits you. If you are wondering what the best ways to spend your day off are, here are a couple of suggestions.

Go to the movies

Be honest, when was the last time you saw a movie that didn’t include cartoon characters or singing princesses? Go to the movies with your best friend and watch something you actually want to watch! Treat yourself to a bucket of popcorn, chocolates, sodas and all the junk food you normally avoid because you are trying to set a good example for your kids.

Go shopping

If you are one of those women who find shopping the most relaxing activity in the world, go for it! You can go to your local mall, check what’s new (without your kids telling you how bored they are every two minutes) and even buy something for yourself. I repeat, for yourself. If putting on a bra and going outside seems like too much work, you can always shop online. There are so many great websites, such as the Moon Magic site, where you can find fabulous pieces of jewelry for a low price.

Take a bubble bath

When you are a mom, you forget what the word ‘privacy’ really means. How many times were you on the toilet, trying to do your business and your little ones just barged in asking you a thousand questions? When was the last time you had an uninterrupted shower? Now that your children are away, turn up some soft music, light up the candles, pour yourself a glass of ice-cold sparkling cider (no plastic cups!) and take a relaxing bubble bath.

Take a nap

You remember naps, don’t you? When you fall asleep in the middle of the day for an hour or so? Does this ring a bell? Naps can be so refreshing and you probably haven’t had one in ages, so get under the covers in the afternoon and doze off.

Get a pedicure

Sometimes a nice pedicure can replace an hour at the therapist’s office, I swear! You can do it by yourself, but better yet, go to a salon and let them pamper you. Your feet and your whole body will thank you.

Treat yourself to a luxurious blowout

I can always spot a tired mom from a mile away. Her hair is greasy because she simply doesn’t have time to wash it and it is tied into a low messy bun. If you fit this description as well, make yourself feel like a queen and get that well-deserved blowout.

There are so many ways you can spend your day off, so pick something that will recharge your batteries and help you be the best version of yourself.
