7 Tips to Keep Your Home from Smelling with Pets

Having a pet can bring so much joy in our daily lives. In fact, studies have shown that interacting with pets can help reduce overall stress and anxiety among people. Looking after a pet entails responsibility and commitment, however, and you must be willing to do the work to ensure your furry friend is looked after.

One of the main concerns of having a pet is keeping them and your home from smelling. When you have your routine and tricks done right, this is something you won’t be worried about soon. Here are some tips to get you started.

Use Baking Soda to Absorb Odor

It has been a known trick to put baking soda in your fridge to remove the lingering smell of food that stayed past their due date. You can also use this trick with your dog’s toys, collar, and other items. You can also put baking soda on your carpet overnight and vacuum it the next morning to remove any odour that your pet may have left while lounging around the house.

Professional Cleaning Service

If you don’t have enough time to do the cleaning yourself or you’re not quite confident that you’d get to all the nooks and crannies in your home to completely get rid of your pet’s odour, hiring a cleaning service is a great option. Having professionals to do the cleaning for you would ensure they won’t miss any spot, not to mention it frees up your time to bond with your pet!  You can also consider a carpet cleaning machine for pet urine as well.

Clean Out Their Paws

Make sure you clean your pet’s paws always before they enter the house from your morning walk or a trip to the vet. An absorbent towel or mat would be ideal to fulfill this task. Doing this without fail ensures that your pet doesn’t spread the odour or even dirt all around your floor and furniture.

Dry Them Out After Bath

Simply toweling off your pet so they don’t drip all over the carpet won’t be enough to keep the smell from your house at bay. It is necessary that you dry them out completely so the wet dog smell doesn’t permeate your couch or carpet. A trusty hair dryer would do the trick to ensure your dog dries completely every time. Make sure you use the “Cool” setting, or the high heat from the blower may irritate your pet’s skin.

Air Out Your Home

Opening your windows to let fresh air in is a sure-fire way to air out the dog smell that may have started permeating your house. To ensure that clean air continues to enter your home, crack open a window during the day when you’re home.

Be Vigilant in Cleaning the Litter Box

According to experts, cats won’t use a dirty litter box, so ensure that you clean the litter box daily. Failing to do so means the odour will linger and your cat won’t be using it too. If you have two cats sharing one litter box, scoop up the litter twice daily.

Invest in an Odor-Absorbent Bed

Your pet’s bed is one of the sure places that smell would linger. To make sure that the smell is kept at a minimum, buy a bed that has antimicrobial features. A bed that is machine-friendly and easy to wash also ensures that cleaning them up won’t be as much of a hassle.

One of the greatest challenges of keeping a pet is to ensure your home remains clean and fresh while making sure your pets get the freedom to roam around the place. Following these tips can provide you just that.
