UK staycation ideas for you and your partner after lockdown

As the UK continues to live in a state of lockdown, it’s only natural that our thoughts start to turn towards what we can do when some of the restrictions are lifted. Seeing friends and family is right at the top of the list for most, but there are so many other things for us to look forward to as well.

Maybe you’re excited about going to see a live sporting event, doing a bit of shopping, getting back in the gym or reuniting with your work colleagues. Perhaps you’re just missing having your hair cut! Everyone is different, but one thing that most of us have in common is our desire to get away and explore new places.

It remains to be seen when the overseas travel restrictions will ease, but there are plenty of fantastic spots right here in the UK for you and your loved one to enjoy. Perhaps they’ve had to put up with you throughout the lockdown period, or maybe you live apart and the time has come to reconnect. Either way, there are plenty of staycation destinations for you to consider…

 London

There is certainly no shortage of things for you and your partner to do in the nation’s capital. Why not take a ride on the London Eye and enjoy a unique view of the sprawling city. Or head to Madame Tussauds and get up close and personal with some of the world’s famous faces. If tourist attractions aren’t your thing, maybe just take a stroll and settle down to a picnic in one of the lush green parks. The choice is yours.

Edinburgh

For those living in the south of England, a trip to the Scottish capital can seem a long way to travel for a few days away, so why not take to the sky? The two of you can save money with a web duo ticket for the train to the airport, and once you touch down in Edinburgh there are a world of possibilities. You can visit the famous castle, take a walk up Arthur’s Seat, get a bit tipsy on a gin tour or wander up and down the Royal Mile, soaking up the sights of this magnificent, historic city.

The Norfolk Broads

Maybe the city life is not what you’re after, and you prefer to take things at an altogether slower pace. In that case, a few days in Norfolk could be exactly what you’re after. There are plenty of campsites for those who enjoy the great outdoors, some of which spill right onto the salt marshes, full of winding creeks for you to paddle in – just watch out for the crabs nipping at your feet! Enjoy the vast sandy plains of Holkham Beach, or take a stroll to Wells-next-the-Sea to sample the famous fish and chips.

The Lake District

For nature at its devastatingly beautiful best, it’s hard to top the Lake District. Get the walking gear on and stride out into the countryside, where you’ll take in gloriously unspoiled landscapes as far as the eye can see. Remember to pack for all occasions – the weather in this part of the world can be famously fickle – but it’s a place where you and your partner can spend some quality time alone together after a testing few months.
