Are you being asked to bring an appetizer to a party this year (as opposed to the usual Christmas dessert)? Here is an idea for something festive! A great party recipe is spinach dip in a bread bowl with a twist. It took 5 minutes to do and will be a huge hit.
- 5 medium-sized uncut rolls
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 16-oz. tub of sour cream
- 1 10-oz. package frozen spinach
- 2 packages of dry leek soup or dry French onion soup
- 5 slices of rye bread
- 1 baby carrot
On three of the rolls, hollow them out to make little bowls. With the bread that you removed, tear it up into pieces for dipping. Tear up the other 2 rolls as well, also for dipping. Mix the mayonnaise, sour cream, spinach, and dry soup mix in a bowl. Fill the three bread bowls with the mayonnaise mixture, and arrange the bowls on top of one another in a casserole dish, to make a snowman. Tear off small pieces of rye bread to make the snowman’s eyes and buttons. Use full slices to make his hat. Stick the baby carrot in the top bread bowl as the snowman’s nose. Arrange the torn up roll pieces around the snowman.
5-minute Hummus and Rolls Snowman
- Dinners rolls, 8-10
- Hummus, chicken dip or cream cheese- 1 cup
- Baby carrot—1
In a bowl, place dinner rolls around the edge, making circular space in between. In this space, scoop in the hummus sauce evenly so that it covers the whole empty space. Place two olives as eyes in the centre of the sauce and a carrot as the nose. Additionally, you can make a smiling face by cutting olives into halves and making a curve below the nose.
- 4 large hard-boiled eggs
- 4 small hard-boiled eggs
- 24 -28 Peppercorns
- 1 carrot
- 4 skewer/stick for BBQ or uncooked spaghetti
- Parsley leaves (optional)
Peels the eggs and carrot. Cut the top end of both the carrot and eggs. Now slice the carrots in a way that you have 4 large thick discs and 4 smaller yet thicker discs for the snowman hat. Now gently sew each skewer with the larger carrot disc first, then the smaller disc and two eggs. Repeat the same process with all 4 skewers. Turn the skewer upside down so that you have the carrot side on top as the hat and eggs as the body of the snowman. Make sure the large boiled eggs are on the bottom of the skewer and the smaller eggs are on top so that it makes the face and body. Now take peppercorns and press them gently on the centre of the top egg as the eyes. Use a few more peppercorns to make the buttons of the snowman. If you are using parsley leaves, insert them on the side for decoration. If the skewer is extended from the top, cut off to the level of the hat. Place these little snowmen on a platter and serve.
